From Waffle Lovers to Bak Kwa Toast Bun Believers: The Story of Waffle Bear & Bun Bunni
Hello everyone,
We’re Edmund and Joey, and we believe the best ideas are often born from a simple, heartfelt passion.
For us, that passion was—and is—waffles.
On April 1st, 2025, we took a leap of faith that was no joke.
We launched Waffle Bear, a brand dedicated to crafting the perfect, most joyful waffle experience.
We poured our hearts into every batter, believing that a warm, golden crispy waffle could be a little square of happiness in someone’s day.
And you know what? It was.
We built a community, one waffle at a time.
But as entrepreneurs, our ears are always to the ground, and our minds are always asking, "What's next?
How can we spread more joy?"
The "A-Ha!" Moment That Wasn't a Waffle
Running a waffle business means you’re constantly surrounded by the aroma of baking bread and toasting grains.
We noticed something.
Our customers loved our waffles, but they often craved something else—something savory, something nostalgic, yet utterly new.
They’d look at our griddles / waffle bakers and say, "I wish I could have this for lunch," or "This reminds me of my favorite childhood snack, but different."
One evening, while experimenting in our kitchen (as we often do), we had a wild idea.
What if we took the comforting, fluffy texture we loved in a waffle and translated it into a different form?
What if we created the ultimate savory, satisfying toast experience?
That’s when Bun Bunni hopped into our lives.
Why Bak Kwa Toast Bun? It’s All in the Story.

But to us, it wasn't a leap at all.
It was a natural evolution.

Applying that same meticulous skill to toasting bun was a thrilling new challenge.

Filling a Gap: We saw a gap in the market.
The world of quick, gourmet savory snacks was missing something unique and deeply flavorful.
We didn’t just want to make another sandwich; we wanted to create an experience as memorable as our waffles.
Bun Bunni isn't a pivot away from Waffle Bear; it's a sibling.
It’s born from the same kitchen, the same passion for quality, and the same desire to make people smile through incredible food.

We’re still Edmund and Joey, the waffle lovers who started on April Fool’s Day year 2025, daring to dream with a griddle and a whole lot of batter.
Our first Waffle Bear x Bun Bunni Stall is located in Restoran Hwa Yan Kai (Batu Caves) 华人佳茶餐馆 and started on the 6th November 2025.
